The Golden Age

Saw W by Oliver Stone last night. I thought the most interesting thing about it was the timing of its release. It's a biopic on a sitting president released right before an election. I laughed at parts but the laughter was tempered by the knowledge that the ridiculous situations and decisions made in the movie actually happened. It was uncomfortable. It made me sad.

I went to get a few drinks after the movie with A and R. One drink turned into a bottle of wine each and a shouting match with another table about how 20 percent is the standard amount to tip. The manager oddly got in between the tables and tried to calm things down but sort of thanked us at the same time.

Anyway, got home way too late and way too buzzed. The conditions offered a perfect storm for me to fall asleep and sleep of the effects of the vino but the half gallon of coke I imbibed at the movie theater had other intentions.

Luckily, I had "Step Up 2: The Streets" on my computer. I eventually fell asleep thinking that we may be in the golden age of hip-hop inspired dance movies, nay, we ARE in the golden age of hip-hop inspired dance movies.

Didn't you think that Brolin wasn't weasly enough? I mean, Brolin made W seem more manly than he really is. I was watching the news the night after I saw the movie, and there was video showing Bush, and I just thought, man, that guy is a weasly assface. I think Brolin really missed that aspect of 43.

Yeah. Definitely. But I think Oliver Stone took creative license and leaned on the side of making Bush a sympathetic character. Check out Stone's biography sometime. Stone grew up extremely privileged too with what seems to be an overbearing dad who was pulling strings for him. Possibly, another reason Bush may have been painted this way. Stone put himself into the character too.

Bush is an assface.
