Lust, Caution

Been visiting my parents for the past few days.

I have an outsider's perspective of Orange County since my parents moved here as I was graduating from college. It's interesting for me to get used to the pace and culture every time I come to visit.
This time around I'm seeing a lot of Ron Paul posters. I drove by a place called Holy Spirit Gym, a place that promises a faith-filled workout. It was near a place called Grant's for Guns on Newport Blvd. Guns, Brawn, and God in a one block radius.
I drove by these places on the way to a used camera shop. The owner was really personable and we talked for a while. His son was converting half the store into a fixed gear bike shop and there were some nice converted bikes on display.
On Friday, I started the day with a super big gulp from 7-11. I went to the South Coast Mall to get a gift for Kyle's daughter and my cousin's new son. Someone should do a fast food nation type expose of children's clothing.
I walked into a store called Oilily. They were advertising a sale. I checked out the prices and I got the salesperson to admit that their prices were ridiculous. But the baby clothes were like crack cocaine. I seriously considered buying some stuff there for what was a handkerchief worth of fabric.
I went to a toy store next thinking stuffed animals might be better, a little animal friend for them. But all the animals were made in china and with all the recent warnings against china-made toys I didn't want to trust the dyes. The kids were inevitably going to stick these friends into their mouths.
I ended up going to baby gap. I got a little dress and sweater for Sadie. When the cashier saw my signature, she let out a little laugh and said that was an "awesome signature." Thank you, cashier, for making me feel more weird about buying baby clothes mid-morning at the South Coast Mall with all these other rich white women.
Next, I wanted to get something for myself so I went to Sterling Arts to see the latest in stationary and art supplies. I love this store. It's always an exercise in self-control when I go in there. Lust, caution.

I did pretty good there. I left with only two journals and two copic markers.
