Jhoon Rhee TaeKwonDo

Possibly the best commercial I have ever seen.

From the youtube comments, I gathered that this aired in the Washington DC area during the 80s. For me, the Southern California versions of this commercial are the "Adee-do plumbing" and "Cal Worthington and his dog, Spot" commercials. They were packaged within Macgyver, Charlie's Angels, A-Team, Hawaii 5-0, and Fantasy Island episodes. Plumbing services and a car delearship just aren't as cool as a local TaeKwonDo studio.

I checked JhoonRhee website. Apparently, his son is in charge now. They also offer birthday parties. The ad copy for the parties says:

Tired of the same old birthday parties?
Try a SuperFantistic Tae Kwon Do Birthday Party

at Jhoon Rhee Tae Kwon Do.

I kinda want a superfantastic Tae Kwon Do B-Day party. This might not be a bad idea. Take a group class and be able to gear up and spar your friends with the Karate Kid soundtrack playing in the background. Or enter a group tournament with your friends on your birthday. Doesn't have to be a martial arts tournament but something in which nobody has any idea how to compete.

Here's a younger picture of the man in his uniform.
He flying sidekicked over the gates and landed with
perfect form on the Whitehouse lawn.
He was pissed about something.

Luckily, world leaders met with him and listened to what he had to say.

He told them his four daily affirmations. I pulled these from his Web site. Not surprisingly, they are entitled:

My Four Daily Affirmations

I am smart because I always learn something good everyday.

I am humanly perfect because I never make mistakes knowingly.

I like myself because I always take action to make good things happen.

I am happy that I am me because I always choose to be happy.

J.R. never met with them again.
